Quadruple murders in Conover, NC
Four members of this family were brutally murdered inside their North Carolina home on March 12, 2009.
Pauline Chao, 18, was one of four victims brutally murdered inside of a Conover, NC home on March 12, 2009. Those who knew Pauline say she was a very positive and compassionate young woman, and she was always willing to help out her fellow students.
20-year-old Melanie Saephan was slain in her Conover home on the morning of March 12, 2009. Teachers and students say she and her younger sister, Pauline, were very much alike -- both were close to one another and said to be extremely upbeat and caring individuals.

Investigators in Conover, N.C. are on foot and searching door-to-door for clues in a community still reeling from the brutal slaying of four people in a home there.
Two young women, Pauline Chao and Melanie Saephan, ages 18 and 20, 4-year-old Cody Sae-Chao, and their mother, Lisa, were shot and stabbed to death on Thursday, March 12, 2009.
At this point, police still have no clue as to who the suspect may be, and they are trying to figure out why someone would want to wipe out this beautiful family.
Investigators say a teenager showed up at the home at around 7 a.m. to pick up Pauline for school.
Cops say that’s when the teenager noticed a man, wearing a hooded sweatshirt, standing on the porch of the family home. When he saw the car approaching, he left the porch and walked towards the backyard.
Cops say Pauline then walked outside and got into the car with her friend and they drove away. Inside the car, Pauline’s friend said that she saw a man standing on the porch.
Investigators say Pauline then called her sister, Melanie, to warn her about the strange man. During the conversation, Melanie said that someone was at the rear door. Cops say Pauline was telling her sister not to open the door, when the call was disconnected.
Pauline and her friend turned back around to head back towards the house. When they got there, they decided to both approach the front door and when they knocked, they heard screams inside.
Cops say it was the hooded man who opened the front door and he immediately began attacking Pauline. Her friend raced back to the car to get some help.
Catawba County Sheriff’s deputies responded quickly, but it was too late: the suspect was gone, and Pauline, her sister, brother and mother were all dead.
Police say a gun and knife were found in a nearby backyard, apparently just tossed with no attempt to hide them. That gun and knife are now at a crime lab, and they are hoping to retrieve fingerprints and DNA from the weapon.
Investigators say the husband and father was at work when his family was killed. While police say he is devastated over his loss, the small community of Conover is also in pain, shocked over the vicious crime.
"This type of crime and the number of victims involved is certainly out of the norm for our community. It is the most heinous series of homicides I have ever encountered," said Sgt. Aaron Turk, Catawba County Sheriff's Office.
It's not unlikely that the victim, or all the victims, knew the attacker. Police do not believe this was a random attack. They tell AMW that it's possible the killer planned this ambush, and it appears that the killer knew the family's daily routine and habits.

Alabama grudge shooting
Micheal Mclendon is the person identified in this horrible mass murder/suicide. He killed his mother, grandmother, uncle, two cousin and 5 others including the sheriff's wife and 18 month old baby. The motive for the cause was listed on a hit list that he wrote of persons we bore grudges against. He wasn't known to be nothing more than a shy quiet kind kid. Mclendon kept to himself mostly and collected survival materials. The people that died because of this rage and hidden hatred didn't know and didn't deserve to have their lives taken. Why did this event unfolded and was accomplish by Mclendon? I believe the forces of spiritual evil was at work and taunted him to kill and destroy. Only a few hours difference a 17 year old teenager Tim Kretschmer from Germany, also went on a shooting rampage that resulted in 15 people killed. This two tragic events that unfolded is not coincidence.
Video below of 17 year old Tim Kretschmer of Germany stealing dad's pistol and commiting 15 murders before killing himself.

North Korea has stated bluntly that if any country tries to shoot down its peaceful satellite it is sending into orbit they will declare war. South Korea and the United States believe this is a cover up to test its long range missile. North Korea has been very hostile and has completely shut off the emergency direct hot line with South Korea. United States has confirm that North Korea has nuclear weapons.
Magician ships self in a box
Wade Whitcomb of North Syracuse is accused of shipping himself from N.Y. to L.V. via a pressurized crate. He says it was done with 4 camera positioned outside and one inside at the time of him being shipped. It has gotten some national attention. Suppose to be a promotional stunt to raise awareness of a friend's website called Ventma dot com. This news has come to the attention of the Feds and Ups the shipping carrier. Wade and his friends has claim that he did get shipped in a box to Las Vegas. However, This claim is believe to be false since the Feds came knocking. Hmm, Did it actually go thru. It is possible to be shipped in a box. In 2005 a Bronx 25 year old residence shipped himself to Texas I believed but the shipping carrier found out and he was put on 1 year probation. Yes, it is possible and maybe Wade Whitcomb did follow thru and denied it didn't.

Not another racist news cartoon
The New York Post has done it again. Stirring outrage and anger over the racist cartoon of a monkey that was shot dead after mauling it's owner friend. It reads, "They'll have to find someone else to write the next stimulus bill". NYP knew what they were doing and it is intentional. They are a news firm which it's audience rely on it for information. I think it is wrong for doing that but this is the world that we live in. Anything is possible. Good or bad controversy is always good. Just don't be to antsy for the follow-up apology.

Obama, Japan in favor of their hero
OBAMA, Japan (AFP) - Barack Obama, who has been credited with tapping support in unlikely places, is enjoying a groundswell of enthusiasm in a small city in western Japan, which is delighted to share his name.
Obama, Japan, is rooting for candidate Obama, hoping that if he becomes the US president he will put this ancient fishing town of 32,000 people firmly on the tourist map and, just maybe, choose it for an international summit.
Supporters in Obama -- which means "small shore" in Japanese -- have held parties to watch election results, put up posters wishing the senator luck and plan a special batch of the town's "manju" sweets bearing his likeness.
"At first we were more low-key as Hillary Clinton looked to be ahead, but now we see he is getting more popular," Obama Mayor Toshio Murakami said.
"I give him an 80 percent chance of becoming president," the 75-year-old said with a proud grin.
Murakami sent a letter last year to Obama, enclosing a set of lacquer chopsticks, a famous product of this town on the Sea of Japan (East Sea) in Fukui prefecture's Wakasa region.
"I will present you the chopsticks of Wakasa paint and I am glad if you use it habitually," Murakami said in the English-language letter. "I wish you the best of health and success."
Murakami noted that Barack Obama's birthday, August 4, happens to be "Chopsticks Day" in the city.
Obama, who is also a hero in his father's native Kenya, has been gaining in a neck-and-neck race with Clinton, in part by winning over voters in states that rarely back members of their Democratic party.
Murakami is now preparing another package for the candidate that will include a good-luck charm from the local Obama Shrine.
"For the first letter I found his address on the Internet, so I don't know if he got it," Murakami said. "But this time I asked the (US) embassy for his exact address, so I'm sure he'll get it."

Whites will be minority in US by 2050
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Immigration will drive the population of the United States sharply upward between now and 2050, and will push whites into a minority, projections by the Pew Research Center showed Monday.
"If current trends continue, the population of the United States will rise to 438 million in 2050, from 296 million in 2005," an increase of nearly 50 percent, the study by the Washington-based think-tank said.
More than 80 percent of the increase will be due to immigrants arriving in the country and their US-born children, who will make up nearly one in five Americans by 2050 compared with one in eight in 2005, it said.
Whites, who currently make up around two-thirds of the US population, will become a minority (47 percent) by 2050, the report said.
The Hispanic population, currently the largest minority group, will triple in size and double in percentage terms from 14 percent in 2005 to 29 percent in 2050, the report said.
The Asian population will roughly double in percentage terms, from five percent to nine percent, while the black population will remain static at around 13 percent.
The projections are based on trends over the past 50 years, during which legal and illegal immigration have played an increasing role in US population growth, the report said.
From 1960 to 2005, new immigrants and their US-born descendants accounted for 51 percent of population increase, and for 58 percent from 1980 to 2005, the report said.
But, the report warned, "possible future changes in immigration policy" could impact the projections.
Illegal immigration has become a top issue in the race for the US presidency, especially among Republican candidates, most of whom favor of a crackdown.

Work stress link to heart disease
LONDON (Reuters) - Work really can kill you, according to a study
on Wednesday providing the strongest evidence yet of how on-the-job stress raises the risk of heart disease by disrupting the body's internal systems.
The findings from a long-running study involving more than 10,000 British civil servants also suggest stress-induced biological changes may play a more direct role than previously thought, said Tarani Chandola, an epidemiologist at University College London.
"This is the first large-scale population study looking at the effects of stress measured from everyday working life on heart disease," said Chandola, who led the study. "One of the problems is people have been skeptical whether work stress really affects a person biologically."
Heart disease is the world's leading cause of death. It is caused by fatty deposits that harden and block arteries, high blood pressure which damages blood vessels, and other factors.
The researchers measured stress among the civil servants by asking questions about their job demands such as how much control they had at work, how often they took breaks, and how pressed for time they were during the day.
The team conducted seven surveys over a 12-year period and found chronically stressed workers -- people determined to be under severe pressure in the first two of the surveys -- had a 68 percent higher risk of developing heart disease.
The link was strongest among people under 50, Chandola said.
"This study adds to the evidence that the work stress-coronary heart disease association is causal in nature," the researchers wrote in the European Heart Journal.
Behavior and biological changes likely explain why stress at work causes heart disease, Chandola said. For one, stressed workers eat unhealthy food, smoke, drink and skip exercise -- all behaviors linked to heart disease.
In the study, stressed workers also had lowered heart rate variability -- a sign of a poorly-functioning weak heart -- and higher-than-normal levels of cortisol, a "stress" hormone that provides a burst of energy for a fight-or-flight response.
Too much cortisol circulating in the blood stream can damage blood vessels and the heart, Chandola said.
"If you are constantly stressed out these biological stress systems become abnormal," Chandola said.

Cops block drug dealer lotto ticket
ELLSWORTH, Maine (AP) -- His lottery ticket was a $1,000 winner, but police have seized it saying it was bought with proceeds from an illegal drug sale. A judge will decide whether a man will keep a $1,000 lottery ticket police say was bought with drug money. Michael David, who had been staying at an Ellsworth motel, sold four 10-milligram methadone pills for $15 each last week, Police Chief John Deleo said. He then went to a convenience store and bought lottery tickets and other merchandise and went back to his motel room, where he was busted. "I guess it will be up to a judge to decide, but it's in our possession right now as proceeds from a drug transaction," Deleo said of the winning ticket. David, 46, remained in custody Monday in the Hancock County Jail on drug trafficking charges. An official at the jail said David was not available for comment.

Antimatter discovered in the universe
Antimatter, which annihilates matter upon contact, seems to be rare in the universe. Still, for decades, scientists had clues that a vast cloud of antimatter lurked in space, but they did not know where it came from.
The mysterious source of this antimatter has now been discovered — stars getting ripped apart by neutron stars and black holes.
While antimatter propulsion systems are so far the stuff of science fiction, antimatter is very real.
What it is
All elementary particles, such as protons and electrons, have antimatter counterparts with the same mass but the opposite charge. For instance, the antimatter opposite of an electron, known as a positron, is positively charged.
When a particle meets its antiparticle, they destroy each other, releasing a burst of energy such as gamma rays. In 1978, gamma ray detectors flown on balloons detected a type of gamma ray emerging from space that is known to be emitted when electrons collide with positrons — meaning there was antimatter in space.
"It was quite a surprise back then to discover part of the universe was made of antimatter," researcher Gerry Skinner, an astrophysicist at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., told SPACE.com.
These gamma rays apparently came from a cloud of antimatter roughly 10,000 light-years across surrounding our galaxy's core. This giant cloud shines brightly with gamma rays, with about the energy of 10,000 suns.
What exactly generated the antimatter was a mystery for the following decades. Suspects have included everything from exploding stars to dark matter.
Now, an international research team looking over four years of data from the European Space Agency's International Gamma Ray Astrophysics Laboratory (INTEGRAL) satellite has pinpointed the apparent culprits. Their new findings suggest these positrons originate mainly from stars getting devoured by black holes and neutron stars.
As a black hole or neutron star destroys a star, tremendous amounts of radiation are released. Just as electrons and positrons emit the tell-tale gamma rays upon annihilation, so too can gamma rays combine to form electrons and positrons, providing the mechanism for the creation of the antimatter cloud, scientists think.

Flash and UPnP security flaws
Security researchers have released code showing how a pair of widely used technologies could be misused to take control of a victim's Web browsing experience. The code, published over the weekend by researchers Adrian Pastor and Petko Petkov, exploits features in two technologies: The Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) protocol, which is used by many operating systems to make it easier for them to work with devices on a network; and Adobe Systems' Flash multimedia software. By tricking a victim into viewing a malicious Flash file, an attacker could use UPnP to change the primary DNS (Domain Name System) server used by the router to find other computers on the Internet. This would give the attacker a virtually undetectable way to redirect the victim to fake Web sites. For example, a victim with a compromised router could be taken to the attacker's Web server, even if he typed Citibank.com directly into the Web browser navigation bar. "The most malicious of all malicious things is to change the primary DNS server," the researchers wrote. "That will effectively turn the router and the network it controls into a zombie which the attacker can take advantage of whenever they feel like it." Because so many routers support UPnP, the researchers believe that "ninety nine percent of home routers are vulnerable to this attack." In fact, many other types of UPnP devices, such as printers, digital entertainment systems and cameras are also potentially at risk, they added in a Frequently Asked Questions Web page explaining their research. Cross-Platform Attack The attack is particularly worrisome because it is cross-platform-- any operating system that supports Flash is susceptible-- and because it is based on features of UPnP and Flash, not bugs that could be easily fixed by Adobe or the router vendors. Users could avoid this attack by turning UPnP off on their routers, where it is normally enabled by default, but this would cause a variety of popular applications, such as IM (instant-message) software, games and Skype, to break and require manual configuration on the router. Adobe could make changes to Flash to mitigate the problem, but attackers could most likely also launch this attack using another technique, known as DNS pinning, said Aviv Raff, a researcher who has also blogged about the attack. "This is a critical issue," he said in an IM interview. "People should turn off UPnP in their devices, and vendors should put UPnP disabled by default in the devices they deliver." Although this could make life difficult for nontechnical users, Raff believes it would be worth the effort. "It's better than having your traffic owned by malicious people," he said. However, another security expert said that turning off UPnP would be overkill, considering that online criminals have not even begun using this attack. "Look... if you get hit by a meteor, it's devastating," said Roger Thompson, chief research officer with Grisoft, via IM. "But no one goes around building meteor shelters."

Benny Hinn resigns as regent of ORU
Benny Hinn resigns his regents position at ORU (Oral Roberts University)following the resignation of Richard Roberts, the chairman of ORU in November 2007. The debt-ridden school is involve in a financial scandal of it's former president, Richard Roberts. The university on Thursday also settled with one of three professors who filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the school. Benny Hinn and I.V. Hilliard resigned as regents, where they were involved in making major school decisions, university spokesman Jeremy Burton said Thursday. Burton declined to say why the two resigned, but said both wrote the board to express their support for the school's mission. Hinn and Creflo Dollar are among six televangelist who are being investigated by Iowa Senator, Chuck Grassley. The Iowa Sen. want to investigate whether the accused use there organization tax exempt status to live lavishly on the backs of small donors. The resignations follow that of Richard Roberts, who stepped down as university president in November amid allegations he misspent school funds to bankroll a lavish lifestyle. Roberts, the son of school founder Oral Roberts, held the position at the 5,700-student school since 1993. Raining cats, dogs and iguanas
Key Biscayne,Fla.- It was so cold this week that iguana fell from trees and branches. Iguana are cold-blooded reptiles and they go into a deep sleep when the temperatures reaches below 40 degrees. I get the same effect after eating 15 fried wontons. These iguana just suddenly stiff up and loses all control of their bodily functions. But it isn't sudden death: Experts said the reptiles perk up when the temperatures rises. The iguanas turn a gray hue in the meantime. Iguanas can sustain cold for between four and 10 hours before they have to wake up.

Micheal Klein CEO of Pacificor killed in plane crash
Micheal Klein, CEO of hedge fund manager of Pacificor LLC, had his life cut short over the weekend when his plane crash in Panama. His recent business success was a deal with Yahoo Inc estimated at $450 million. Klein oversee eGroups Inc., which is the world's largest e-mail communication service. eGroups Inc. was sold to Yahoo dot com at the peak of the dot com boom. People close to Klein, described him as being very hard working and clever. He was also very giving and humbled. Klein likes being around people who mirrored his image. Considerably bright, Klein graduated from college at a very young age of 17. He later founded two technology business company in the 1990s.
On the plane along with Micheal Klein was his daughter Talia Klein, 13, and Edwin Lasso, 23, the pilot of the plane who were also killed. The only lone surviver is Francesca Lewis, 12, who apparently suffered a broken arm and hypothermia. She remains hospitalized and doesn't remember much.
